Bhrigu Nandi Nadi Software: What BNN Practitioners Need

Written byBodhlokPublished on27 Oct 2026CategoryChoosing software

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) software should show the chart the way Nadi practitioners read it: planets linked by sign (same sign, trines, 2nd and 12th, 7th), natural karakas instead of house lordships, retrograde planets also read from the previous sign, and transits of Jupiter and Saturn over natal planets. Most general Parashari software leaves BNN practitioners to work this out by hand.

Why BNN needs its own view

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi is a Nadi method that has become widely studied in India, popularised in recent decades largely through the work of R.G. Rao. It reads the rashi chart differently from Parashari Jyotish. Houses counted from the lagna and house lordships take a back seat; what matters is which planets are connected to each other by sign, and what each planet naturally signifies (its karakatva).

A Parashari screen shows all of that information, but arranged for a different method. A BNN practitioner looking at a standard D1 has to rebuild the connections mentally for every planet before the reading even starts. That is the gap specialist software should close.

The core BNN principles software should reflect

These are the working principles most BNN teachers start from. Lineages differ on details, so treat them as the common ground rather than the last word.

  • Sign connections, not house lordship. A planet is read with the planets in the same sign, in trine to it (the 5th and 9th signs), in the 2nd and 12th signs from it, and in the 7th sign opposite.
  • Natural karakas carry the reading. Jupiter is commonly taken as the native in a male chart and Venus in a female chart; Saturn signifies karma and profession; Venus also stands for the wife, Mars for the husband, the Sun for the father and the Moon for the mother.
  • Retrograde planets. Many practitioners also read a retrograde planet as influencing the sign behind it, so it joins the combinations of the previous sign as well.
  • Exchange and direction. The flow of signs (forward from a karaka, behind a karaka) shapes how a combination is read.
  • Timing by transit. Jupiter's roughly twelve-year cycle and Saturn's roughly thirty-year cycle are followed as they cross natal planets and the signs connected to them. These transits are the main timing tool in BNN, rather than dashas.

What a useful BNN module shows

When you evaluate any software for BNN work, look for the following on the screen without manual counting:

  1. A planet-by-planet connection table: for each graha, the planets in the same sign, trines, 2nd and 12th, and 7th.
  2. Karaka-first reading: choose Jupiter, Saturn or Venus as the anchor and see every planet linked to it.
  3. Retrograde handling: an option to include a retrograde planet's previous sign.
  4. Transit overlay: Jupiter and Saturn's current and future positions marked against the natal chart, with the dates they reach each natal planet's sign.
  5. Notes beside the chart: BNN readings are built step by step, so space to record the combinations you've judged matters.

The software options, fairly

There are specialist programs built around Nadi and BNN methods. Mindsutra's Bhrigu Naadi Astro is one dedicated desktop option, and some online platforms now list BNN tools alongside KP and Parashari charts. General-purpose programs such as Jagannatha Hora, Parashara's Light and LeoStar are excellent for Parashari and Jaimini work and give you every planetary position you need, but most of them do not organise the screen around BNN connections. Many BNN students therefore still work from a printed rashi chart and a notebook.

How Bodhlok handles BNN

Bodhlok includes Bhrigu Nandi Nadi as one module on the same desk as D1, the Shodashavarga, KP and Jaimini. That matters because many practitioners cross-check: a BNN reading of Saturn as career karaka, then a look at D10 and the running dasha. On Bodhlok all of these sit on one screen, on the same chart, with the same ayanamsa.

The calculation comes from the Swiss Ephemeris, and the AI consult works the same way here as everywhere in Bodhlok: calculation first, rules second, context third, language last. The language model never invents a combination; the final reading is the astrologer's.

Studying BNN on a sample chart

A simple exercise for students: open a sample chart and list every planet connected to Jupiter by sign. Then do the same for Saturn. Mark where transiting Jupiter and Saturn sit today, and note which natal planets each will reach next. You'll see quickly why BNN practitioners value a connection table over a house chart.

Try it on a sample chart

Open your free desk at bodhlok.com, load a sample chart and switch to the Bhrigu Nandi Nadi view next to D1.

Frequently asked questions

What is Bhrigu Nandi Nadi astrology?

Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) is a Nadi method of reading the rashi chart through sign-based connections between planets and their natural significations, with Jupiter and Saturn transits used for timing. It was popularised in recent decades largely through R.G. Rao's teaching.

How is BNN different from Parashari astrology?

Parashari Jyotish reads houses from the lagna, house lordships and dashas. BNN mostly sets the lagna and lordships aside and reads which planets connect by sign (same sign, trines, 2nd and 12th, 7th) and what each planet naturally signifies.

Which planet represents the native in BNN?

Many BNN teachers take Jupiter as the native in a male chart and Venus in a female chart. Lineages differ, so follow the method your teacher uses.

How is timing done in Bhrigu Nandi Nadi?

Mainly through transits: Jupiter's roughly twelve-year cycle and Saturn's roughly thirty-year cycle as they reach natal planets and the signs connected to them.

Do I need special software for BNN?

You can work BNN by hand from a rashi chart. Software helps by listing every planet's sign connections and overlaying Jupiter and Saturn transits, which saves time and avoids counting errors.
